Busy weekend

On Saturday Mama, Marlie, and I all went up to Douglasville for Erin's baby shower. We really enjoyed the shower and getting to see Erin and her growing belly. ;) We also got to meet baby Ramsey who is the son of some friends that Bryan went to college with. Marlie is a few months older than Ramsey but they are just about the same size. Of course I couldn't pass up the opportunity to take some pictures of them together. Here is one of my favorites.

Saturday night I attended The Music Man in which Avery was performing. The students did a really good job with it. On Sunday morning we went to church. The nursery there is usually full of babies but yesterday Marlie was the only one. I think that was a pleasant change for her. Yesterday afternoon I also ran for the first time in a LONG time. The weather was bad so I got on my mom's treadmill for a little while. It was just a short run but it felt great. I plan on slowly working my way back up (and beyond) to how much I was running when I got pregnant.

7 Months

Marlie is 7 months old today! I was telling Bryan that 6 months still sounds like a baby but 7 months sounds much older. I know that's a little strange but he agreed and compared it to going from 26 to 27 - which we just turned!
We went to the doctor yesterday for her weekly weight check. She gained 9 oz in 10 days so the doctor was satisfied with that. She has to keep eating like she has been and we will go back next month to make sure she's still gaining well.
I told Bryan how she's been so messy when eating the past few days.
He said he'd like a picture so we took this one last night just for him. None of it is for show. She has really started getting this messy when she eats!

Family watchdog

Click on this link to see if you have criminals living near you.

www.familywatchdog.us

When you visit this site you can enter your address and a map will pop up with your house as a small icon of a house. There will be red, blue and green dots surrounding your entire neighborhood. When you click on these dots a picture of a criminal will appear with his or her home address and the description of the crime he or she has committed.

The best thing is that you can show your children these pictures and see how close these people live to your home or school.

This site was developed by John Walsh from Americas Most Wanted.

This is another tool we can use to help us keep our kids safe.

Please pass this on to everyone!!

My aunt sent me this email yesterday and this was my response:
I've seen this website before but not since I've lived in this house. I get nervous sometimes being here by myself and now I just found out....
Less than 1/2 mile away lives an "other offense"
Less than 1 mile away lives an "offense against children" and a "rape"
and 2 more "offense against children" live less than 1.5 miles away.

Yikes!

Milestones

I'm a little late with this post, but Marlie has been sitting for almost 2 weeks now. I wanted to post the video of her that I took but I have been experiencing technical difficulties with it. Of course the video of something that significant wouldn't work! Here are a few pictures I've taken though. The first two are from one morning this week and the others from when we were playing outside last weekend.
She is waving now too but it is hard to get a picture of that!
She is also saying 'ma' constantly but I'm not sure if it "counts" because I don't think she is referring to me. It's just a fun new sound that she has learned to make!

Deployments and Tires

Yesterday as I was driving back from Marlie's doctor's appointment a warning light came on in my car. I wasn't sure what it indicated so I was nervous about continuing to drive but I didn't want to stop either. Once I got into town I was able to reference my manual and found out it was a tire pressure monitor. The warning light comes on if the tire is flat or has a significant loss of pressure. Upon reading that my heart sank. I thought about the awful experience I had with my tires last deployment. Daddy came over after work and checked the pressure of my tires and determined that one of the back tires was the culprit. I started looking at it and spotted a nail. That was the cause of my problems last time too but thankfully that's where the similarities end. Today I took my car up to the tire place in town (technical name, huh?) and they took care of it for me without a problem. Even though I really miss being in a military community, getting help like that is one of the nice things about being home.

Operation Weight Gain

I took Marlie for her 6 month check up yesterday and I was very eager to see how her weight gain was. Over the past 2 months she has grown an inch and developmentally she is right on track which is great. Over the past month she gained 7 oz but is still only at 13-2. So now he is concerned about her weight. She is going to have to eat about 3 times the solids she has been eating and I have to keep a diary of everything she eats and when. We have to go back in a week for a weight check. I had already planned on starting to give her a bottle of formula a day so hopefully that will help a tiny bit too.
She loves cereal and all the vegetables but last night she had chicken for the first time. She has finally met a food she doesn't like.
However, she is a big fan of Orange Julius!

Calling Afghanistan

This is something that has been frustrating me this week. Bryan and I try not to put a price on communication but it's hard not to think about when it's this crazy. We tried using the free phones that are provided but that didn't work too well. We kept losing our connection so we spent the whole time saying "Are you there? Can you hear me?". Next Bryan tried using a phone card and that was more expensive than we'd hoped. Then I found a phone card specifically for calling Afghanistan from the US and it appeared to be a pretty good rate. Of course once I used it, it wasn't near as good as advertised. It was much easier calling Iraq from Germany than this! That just doesn't seem right to me.

This may be a pointless post. After I typed it Bryan tried one more route. It seems like it's going to be our best option so hopefully it will continue to work well.

Happy Friday!

Pictures from Bryan's time at home

Here are some random pictures we took while Bryan was home. Bryan took the first one of Marlie playing while he was cooking. In the next few we were just playing around with his uniform. Following those are Bryan getting Marlie dressed for the day and then getting into trouble that night. The last two are from the morning he left.
