Water Park & "Airplanes"

At the last minute, I ended up taking a class Wednesday through Friday last week. The gist of the class is that it prepares you to be a leader within the Army community. When the class ended on Friday afternoon, I was ready for the weekend!
On Saturday morning we went to a nearby water park with friends. The park is very small and geared towards younger children. Marlie LOVED it, and Bryan & I also really enjoyed it. We will probably visit the park again this weekend since Bryan has 2 extra days off for the holiday. Here is a picture of all the girls in the lazy river.

Ever since we went to Memphis, Marlie has been fascinated by airplanes. Around here that usually means helicopters and Marlie loves seeing them fly over our house. There is a display on post of historic aircraft and Marlie gets so excited every time we ride by there. Bryan stopped there with her one day last week so that she could see them up close. She had such a great time that we took her back on Saturday afternoon. Here she is with some of the "airplanes".

Fun, Fun Weekend!

This was another fun & busy weekend for us. Saturday morning I ran in my first 10K! Those 6.2 miles were the furthest I've ever run. Although Bryan can run much faster and farther than me, he ran right beside me the whole time. I am really thankful he did that to support me.
We had to be at the race site at 6am, so Marlie's babysitter came to our house at 5. The race began at 7am and after 1 hour and 14 minutes, we completed it! Since this was my first race of this distance, my goals were just to run the whole thing and not finish last. I accomplished both of those goals.

Even though we were exhausted that evening, the 3 of us joined our friends at Jazz on the Lawn. Jazz is held throughout the summer at a winery here in town. Everyone takes their own chairs and blankets and sits on the lawn. The event name is a little deceptive because they have bands that play all genres of music, not just jazz. Everyone brings a picnic dinner and enjoys the local wine. We had quite a crowd between all of our friends and kids. I think the kids had as much (if not more) fun that the adults!

Of course Sunday was all about celebrating Father's Day for us. Church is always a priority for us on Sunday, but we decided to go out for a family breakfast in honor of Bryan. He loves to eat breakfast at places like Ihop and we rarely get there. We enjoyed a big breakfast and getting to leisurely enjoy our morning.
Even though it seems like the dad shouldn't be doing the cooking on Father's Day, Bryan was determined to do a lot of grilling. While Marlie played in her pool yesterday evening, Bryan grilled steak and ribs. I made macaroni & cheese and roasted vegetables so we had quite a feast. Bryan wasn't able to be with us on his first Father's Day, so I'm glad he enjoyed his second one so much. Marlie is crazy about her daddy, and I am so thankful to have a husband that is such a great father. (Of course I have to add that my daddy is pretty awesome too! ;)

M enjoys one of the perks of having your own pool - swimming au naturel!

SugarBubbie Halter Dress: Done!

I'm so excited to have completed this dress! I'm still so slow at knitting so I've been working on this one for a while. Our trip to Georgia last weekend helped me to finish it since I was able to get plenty of knitting done in the car.

A Full House

Wednesday evening we had the pleasure of having some of our old friends from Baumholder come by for a visit. In addition to the four of them, they also had 3 other kids with them. Their dad came later and joined us for supper, but for most of the night we had 4 adults and 6 kids here. There were 2 5 year-olds, a 4 year-old, 3 year-old, 2 year-old, and M.
Things were slightly chaotic but everyone had a lot of fun. Here is Marlie with our friends 2 children. They had never met Marlie and we remembered their kids as pretty much being toddlers. There's quite a lot of personality between the 3 of them!

And this was M by the end of the night! Running around in her tutu and still wanting to get in her swimming pool!

Going in the Potty!

To some this may not be an appropriate topic for blogging, but as a first time mom, I've got to post it! Marlie has been very interested in the potty for a while now. That's why we went ahead and bought one a few months ago even though we knew she wouldn't use it yet. She will mention it and want to sit on it, but that's as far as things have gone.
During lunch on Monday she was saying potty over and over so I agreed to let her up to sit on it. (She has also learned that the potty is a good procrastination tactic.) We went in and I sat her on the big potty but on her little seat. She sat and talked for a while. Eventually I figured she was pulling my leg again. I asked her if she was done and she replied 'no.' A couple of minutes later she got serious and next thing I know, she had taken her first poop in the potty! She was so excited and we all celebrated a little to show her how good that was. I'm sure it will be a while before she successfully goes again, but it was a start!

Swim Lessons

We are currently halfway through swim lessons. We went Monday through Thursday last week and will do the same this week. The lessons aren't quite as aggressive as what I had hoped for, but Marlie is definitely enjoying them.
As far as "skills" go, we have worked on kicking and using her arms, floating, jumping in, and today we "hid" under the water.
Bryan had last Monday off so he was able to go to the first class. Here are a few pictures taken then.

Currahee Rendezvous

My mom and sister arrived late on Thursday night for a weekend visit. On Friday morning we went to Family Day for Bryan's unit and that evening we just hung out at home.
Saturday morning Bryan accompanied me on a 4 mile training run for the 10K later this month. He can run much faster and further than me, but I appreciated his support. That afternoon we all packed up and headed to the Opryland Hotel in Nashville. We had Bryan's brigade ball there. While Bryan & I attended the ball, M explored the hotel with my mom & sister. We all loved it there and we hope to get back there a few times while we live so close.
Here we are on the balcony of our room. Behind us is still inside the hotel. It's the Garden Conservatory area.
