Daytona Beach

At the end of June we went to Daytona Beach with my parents, sister and a big group of our family friends. Unlike our trip to Disney, this was a true vacation. Marlie had a great time playing in the sand and the ocean and swimming in the pool. There were plenty of people willing to play with her so she loved that too! Marlie & I went with this same group a couple of years ago, but Bryan hasn't been to Daytona as an adult/parent. We both agreed that it is a great beach for a family vacation. It is not crowded and you can easily drive from one area to another and not have to wait at most restaurants.

My dad spotted and caught a Starfish. It was fun for all of us to experience that and especially for Marlie to see one.

The 3 of us went to play putt-putt one night while everyone else was at the dog track. The last time Bryan took Marlie to play she got tired of it before they finished. The night we went however, we all had a lot of fun. Marlie even had a hole in one! After golf, we got some late night ice cream before going back to the hotel and to bed.

On our last day I realized we hadn't taken any token family beach pictures, so we got a few before dinner that night.

Father Daughter Dance

On Father's Day weekend, Bryan & Marlie attended a Father Daughter Dance on post. Marlie was so excited to get all dressed up and have a special night with her Daddy. The coordinators of the event went all out with a DJ, decorations, finger foods, goody bags, a photographer, and corsages made from balloons.

Wilderness at the Smokies

We've made quite a few whirlwind trips since Bryan returned from his deployment. One of those trips was us driving to Georgia on Friday for my cousin's graduation that night, then driving a couple of hours to Bryan's cousin's wedding on Saturday. We spent Saturday night at my parents' house before leaving again on Sunday. However, instead of coming back here, we drove to Wilderness at the Smokies in east Tennessee.

On the way through north Georgia we stopped at Tallulah Falls so Marlie could see a few of the waterfalls.

We only took at few pictures at the resort since we were usually in the water with Marlie.

Pathfinder Graduation

Bryan spent the second half of May attending Pathfinder School here at Campbell. Everyone told both of us how hard it would be and how much of Bryan's time it would consume. He actually was able to find a great balance between spending time with us and studying here at home. The result of his hard work was that Bryan was the Honor Graduate (aka top student) for his class!

I've gotten behind once again so I will quickly try to play catch up. Marlie & I visited a local strawberry farm for the first time last year, but we wanted to pick some strawberries as a family this year.
M with one of her selections

One of my favorite things about picking them fresh is what a value we get - a full gallon for $10!

I froze a lot of the berries, but I was excited to make a homemade strawberry cake with strawberry cream cheese icing first!
